Hello.
Was raking through my james cd-r's last night and came across a couple of cds worth of unreleased tracks.
Now, to be honest, most of them were unreleased for pretty good reasons (although since most are dodgy bootlegged tracks its kinda hard to tell!) but there were a few real gems on there!
My favourites were probably Wonderful and Violent Rain.
Any thoughts? ;D

"Violent Rain"-- definitely should have been released, as should have "Somebody Help Me." Shame they left the latter off of Seven; it should have made the album. Crackin' song.
"Scratchcard"-- I absolutely love this song; can't believe it didn't make it onto PTMY. It's one of those irresistable, impossible-not-to-sing-along-with James songs, and I love Tim's vocals. That refrain ("Oh lordy, really I must learn some self-control") just sticks in your head.
3 others that I think should have been released: "It's Over," "Let It Fall," and "Throwing It All Away." Gems, all three. The first 2 have some of Tim's best sarcastic lyrics, and the third has really powerful vocals. Oh yes, I almost forgot: "Maybe"-- what a beautiful song, I wish they had redone this in the studio properly and released it somewhere along the way.
I've said this before, but James have so many good songs that went unreleased, they could easily fill another CD with them. And these are just the ones we know about; they probably have a whole vault full of great tracks somewhere that we'll never hear. What about the other 15 or so songs (I believe at one point before the album was released they said they had around 30 songs written for the album) that didn't make it onto PTMY? Love to hear some of those!

Well I haven't heard them all but I'm a fan of Stowaway, Discipline, Might As Well Be Friends, and Somebody Help Me.

Wonderful was a great song. The version at the 1985 Leeds "riot" gig is astonishing. Stowaway as well, great song. Was hoping to see a James peel sessions album at some point.

Throwing It All Away and Maybe were only really jams rather than full-blown songs. I want to hear these studio versions of Maria and Gregory's Town that Record Collector referred to a few years back. An ideal best of would be a single disc and then a triple disc which featured a dvd and a disc of rarities. I have my list to hand

I wonder if America was ever recorded in the studio in it's electric form as played at Alton Towers, i like the acoustic version on the Sometimes single but i'd love to hear the full blown version.

I'd suspect it had been demoed. Most of the stuff they played on that acoustic tour had been written in the studio around the late spring / early summer of 1992.

The irony of the whole solar power thing gets more poignant with every passing second. They must never release a studio version of "America".
