This is magical! Every song is a winner, and Dance of the Bad Angels sends shivers down my spine, seems rather poignant for this stage of my life for some reason.
Generally liked by James fans? It is sort of Jamesy but not really, in so far as the writing bears some similarity, I'd say.

The last thing I remember from last night before I passed out is playing my friends the Youtube clip of Dance of the Bad Angel and going on at great length about how amazing a song it is.

I think it's really good, though slightly too orchestral and over-polished in places which takes the sting out of some of the tracks. It also gives the album a distinct sound I haven't heard elsewhere.
The version of Fall In Love With Me is much better than Bone's. I Believe, Hands In The Rain and Stranger are the best tracks on the album- Hit Parade and Butterfly's Dream are the weakest.
I think the chords for Dance Of The Bad Angels are Dm and A, but I could be wrong.

I've just been listening to this again lately and it is an amazing album. Stranger has always been my favorite, with Dance of the Bad Angels and Old Ways being right up there. And I agree that Fall In Love With Me is better than the version on Bone. I don't think the album as a whole is very similar to James, but I may not be completely objective. My brother once told me that I was too "ensconced" in James to see anything they do objectively, which my have been somewhat true. But that was at the height of my obsession. I'm all better now. I think. Don't get me wrong. I still think they are incapable of writing a truly terrible song. (or at least releasing one) Confusion came close, but even that one is growing on me.

Superb record shows the form Tim was on at that time.
Another album along those lines is Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night. Well worth a listen if you haven't already. Angelo is on board and it's very 'David Lynch'. I think Tim likes this album but I may be wrong.

Is it sad to admit ... ... that of late I put it on to soothe me to sleep at night?? Sleep problems a-plenty, stick this baby on and I drift off wonderfully

You mean that to get to sleep something works better than Say Say Something?

Have to agree with honest, Confusion was my favourite 'new song' that was played in December '98. Think the lyrics are superb in a way that detracts from Tims usual deep meaning lyrics.

Just put this cd on again today for the first time in ages. It's strange but there were some songs on it that I wasnt struck on (Life Gets Better and Stranger mostly) but now I think they are amazing. I began to wonder why this was. Its not just that they have grown on me, as like I said I havent listened to it for ages. Maybe its just getting older and life experiences that let you hear something that you werent open to before. The sign of a good quality track I suppose that age actually enhances rather than diminishes its value. All the other track I find outstanding - particularly Old Ways, Rising (which is beautiful) and Dance Of The Bad Angels. I have to say I prefer the Bone version of Fall In Love With Me. I dont like the background beat on it - the Bone version seems to match the music with the beauty and gentleness of the lyrics perfectly.

Does anyone know the chords to Fall In Love With Me, since we're discussing it?
Myself I think it's one of Tim's worst songs, but done in a minimalist fashion it could potentially work.

It's just the whole half singing half talking way that he sings them in the verses. And the chorus is just really, really bland. And then there's that opening guitar riff. Maybe I should give it another listen. It has been a few years. And what were you referring to when you said trASH? Just curious.
