A technical question: what is a VQF file, and is there a way to convert it to an mp3?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, most of the more helpful links (like the main one, to "vqf.com") are dead. Still, I was able to gleen some useful information.
You can use Winamp to play the VQF files if you download the plugin (the link from that page is dead, but you can get it from the Winamp page). It is possible to convert them to mp3's: you can use Winamp to first convert them from VQF to wav files, and then convert the wav files to mp3s.

jamestheband.no-ip.org:8080/james/4PSetup.zipYou can download that software which installs a VQF input plugin for Winamp. Using Winamp, you can select output to either Wav or MP3. Play the VQF songs and doing so will create a .wav or .mp3 as you specified. If you made mp3, there you have them otherwise use your favorite MP3 encoder to create MP3 from the .wav files. I use Lame to make my MP3 files and usually I use the RazorLame frontend. jamestheband.no-ip.org:8080/james/

Thanks for the info: I downloaded the software and it works fine. It's certainly much easier than the lengthier 2-step process I had tried of converting VQF to wav and then wav to mp3. This way, I simply played the VQF file in Winamp after installing the software and it converted it directly to mp3 as it played. Couldn't be simpler!
