Why are there no bootlegs from the Brighton Centre and Birminingham NEC 2001 shows when there are bootlegs for nearly every other UK show from that year? There have been several bootlegs from those venues in past years: why none from 2001?

I'd imagine because no-one taped them! Considering these venues hold around 30 000 people, and we generally get no more than 2 copies of any one gig around, a very small fraction of people actually do any taping. So if the tapers wern't there, no recording, only way you can be certain is to tape it yourself!
There is incidently at least one recording from 2001 absent, being Liverpool Kings Dock, a much greater loss as this was possibly the best James gig I've been to, but more importantly the same has been said by people who've been to a lot more gigs than me!

Most of the 1998-2001 bootlegs (or the English shows at least) were taped by one person and he didn't go to either Brighton or Birmingham in 2001.
30,000 is a bit optimistic on numbers Deano. NEC is 10k max, Brighton half that at most.
