I've been meaning to ask this for a while. I've tried various searches and for the life of me I can't find a definition of "terreblanche" that seems to fit the sense in which Tim intends. Some of the results I have been able to obtain make reference to individuals, but the lyric reads "a terreblanche", so I'm looking for the noun sense.
Also, just feel the need to mention that Dave does an AMAZING job with the drums in this song. It's so adrenalized, really sounds like people scattering.

terreblanche refers to a South African right-wing extremist called Eugene Terreblanche who was the leader of an organisation called African Resistance Movement, a white supremist organisation in South Africa. Terre blanche is French for "white land". I think the use of his name is probably some reference to accusations of racism in the police (particularly Greater Manchester where the then police chief James Anderton had a reputation for being a traditionalist hard-liner). The whole song is aimed at Manchester's police clampdown on the Manchester club scene in the early nineties. There is also a physical similarity between the two men, but whether this is relevant, I'm not sure.

Thank you, I had assumed some of that from the little comment above the lyrics, but I love the energy in this song and I appreciate the clarification. I love how conscious Tim's lyrics are, it's refreshing.
