Until the fellas get back to recording/touring, we'll probably be lacking in things to discuss. So here's my attempt at killing a few seconds and just comparing notes with the rest of you. Best / Worst: Really Hard / Skullduggery Stripmining / Charlie Dance Gold Mother / How Was It For You? Sound / Live A Love of Life Dream Thrum / Laid Pressure's On / Low Clouds [ ] Watering Hole / Homeboy *Hymn From A Village / no worst to avoid repetition I Know What I'm Here For / Strangers English Beefcake / What Is It Good For? * I just had to mention Hymn because it's so nice to have a stereo quality version of the song. I wish they'd remaster all the pre-Gold Mother releases.

I don't have Stutter, Strip-Mine, or Whiplash ashamedly, even though I've been a fan since Gold Mother, so I'll go on what I do know from these...
Stutter - Best = Johnny Yen/Worst = ?
Strip-Mine - Best = What For/Worst = ?
Gold Mother - Best = 'How was it For Your' or 'Crescendo' (it's just so good on so many levels...)/Worst = Walking the Ghost
Seven - Best = Sound/Worst = Live a love of Life
Laid - Best = One Of The Three/ Worst = Skindiving
Whiplash - Best = Tomorrow/ Worst = ?
Millionaires - Best = We're Going to Miss You/ Worst = Hello
Pleased To Meet You - Best = English Beefcake/Worst = What is it Good For --> Fine gets a special mention just for being a bit of Fun, and the most stand-out-different song in their collection (of mainstream releases. Obviously Wah-Wah and Whiplash sessions excluded)

BEST/WORST
Stutter: Johnny Yen/Black Hole Strip Miine: Stripmining/Charlie Dance Gold Mother: Hang On/How Was It For You Seven: Ring the Bells-Sound (a tie) /Bring A Gun Laid: (tough call, 3-way tie) Five-O & Say Something & One of the Three/Dream Thrum Wah Wah: Basic Brian/Maria-Laughter Whiplash: Avalanche/Blue Pastures Millionaires: IKWIHF & Crash & Fred Astaire (3-way tie, just too close to call)/Surprise PTMY: Fine/Alaskan Pipeline Ultra: I Defeat/Egoiste

Stutter Best - Johnny Yen Worst - Just - Hip
Stripmine Best - Are You Ready Worst - Medival
Gold Mother Best - Sit Down Worst - Lose Control (my first james cd was the Best of and i cringed the first time i heard Lose Control. I even tried to make myself listen a few times and din't get it)
Seven Best - Sevem Worst - Heavens (something about the way Tim says WAITING FOR THE HEAVENs seems just a bit tossed off or something. i just sort of smile to myself) (and what a great album. I really missed Andy later on but i guees everyone has to move on.)
Laid Best - Say Something ( i REALLY feel that Lullabye is one of their best written songs though) Worst - Low Low Low
Wah-Wah Best - Pressure's On (this is a frequent morning listen for me.) Worst - Jam J (its just kinda grating and useless to me.)
Whiplash Best: Play Dead (its so hard for me to not pick greenpeace) Worst: Go The The Bank (this was hard too, i really like Whiplash as much as they slagged it in Q in '99.)
Millionaires Best - We're Gonna Miss You (i could be breaking rules here - but the Eno mix that was a b side is WAY better than the CD) Worst - I Know What I'm Here For (Living in the US and being in High School i couldn't get Millionaires right when it came out. The first song i heard was this on a Q compilation and i was so upset because i thought the entire album would be like this. I'll never understand why Millionaires was so terribly sequenced and there were just too many good b-sides. Eno should have told them to put the simpler stuff on. That album is just way too bloated with overproduction)
Pleased To Meet You Best - Alaskan Pipeline ( i think Eno kept his hands off it because it was already perfect. this song has gotten me through some of the worste times in my life) Worst: Junkie (why !? why!? this killed the mood of the album and there were so many great b-sides to choose)
Ultra Best - i dont' know if i can even choose. Lake/I Defeat/Sunday Morning Worst - Undertaker (B-sides was a travesty! so many exclusions.)

I love bumping ancient threads. StutterBest: So Many Ways (but it's da mn tight with Johnny Yen) Worst: SkullduggeryStrip-MineBest: StripminingWorst: Ya HoGold MotherBest: Sit Down (some things just are) Worst: How Was It For YouSevenBest: Born Of Frustration (but it's between this, Ring The Bells and Seven) Worst: Bring A Gun (it just can't hope to follow the first three tracks) LaidBest: Five-O (because everyone says Sometimes or Laid) Worst: SkindivingWah WahBest: Pressure's OnWorst: Low Clouds (2) WhiplashBest: Avalanche (this is my fave James album, which means it could actually be almost anything, except...) Worst: HomeboyMillionairesBest: Just Like Fred Astaire (or Someone's Got It In For Me) Worst: Vervaceous (I really wish they wouldn't play this live. The spongs in the audience who only bought the Best Of have no idea where it finishes...) Pleased To Meet YouBest: GaudiWorst: Give It AwayB-Sides UltraBest: Tonight (or I Defeat or Stolen Horse..) Worst: Goalie's Ball

Mmm ... will have to think on this one ... but Seven's best song (and James!) has got to be Born of Frustration! I can't get bored of it. And I can't sing the "woo woo woo woo woo!" quite right!
