Here's a question for y'all: Are there any songs that you really weren't into until you heard them live? I've got a few- Protect Me. I never liked the album version. Still don't, really. But once I heard the live accoustic version, it became one of my favorites. Homeboy. The live version at the end of the Whiplash re-release is incredible. P.S. The "A Strange Day" bootleg has a great version of this. The slide guitar dancing around against Saul's violin sold me on this. Lose Control. Don't really know why, but I was kind of indifferent to it until I heard the accoustic version. I Know What I'm Here For. Same thing. Kind of indifferent until I heard the accoustic version. Now I LOVE that song. I guess I'm just not a fan of over-produced songs. Stutter. I didn't listen much at all to the album version. ;D Who else? -geo

Johnny Yen. The recorded version just doesnt do the live one justice!
Someones Got it in for me. Just gets more and more beautiful when sung live.

I agree: the live versions of "Johnny Yen" are so much better than the studio version. Two songs that I love live are "Someone's Got It In For Me" and "Vervaceous." I like the album versions of both songs fine, but I think the live versions are even better. Absolutely gorgeous, both of them. Both are so much more intense and passionate when played live.

?? Umm...what album version? That's another great live song, though.

I'd have to say Honest Joe. Always thought it was just ok until I heard the live version that's a b-side for Destiny's Calling. That one blew me away the first time I listened to it.

It's not on any album, which is why I asked "What album version?" A studio version of "Stutter" has never been released, only the live version. There is a demo tape with an early version of the song, but no studio version has ever been officially released.

I think geo was making a joke about Stutter! Absolutely. Hence the smiley and winking smiley. But I have heard the studio attempt and must agree that the live version is tons better. But yes, my humor (humour for you Brits) is lacking sometimes...

Right you are, scarecrow: I am American and I didn't get the joke. Duh!-- I guess the little smileys should have tipped me off, but I didn't even notice them. Though I'm not sure that there's any correlation between me being American and my slowness: I can be a bit of a dotard, regardless of nationality. Actually, I quite like the British sense of humor. Is there anything remotely similar in Britain these days to the old Monty Python shows? Always loved them; I still watch the reruns sometimes when they're on TV.

Well Cat, if you like the British sense of humour there are some TV series I recommend, however none of them is anything like Monty Python I'm afraid. My Family, Coupling, Harry Enfield, The Royle Family, Absolutely fabulous, League of Gentlemen (my favourite!), Game On, Office Gossip, there are some new ones I forgot the names of... Does anybody here know the Australian comedians Lano & Woodley? They rock!! Oh, and to stick with the topic: I wasn't as fond of Walking the Ghost as after hearing (and seeing) the one on Come Home 1990. Scarecrow, I think Johnny Yen sounds better live because they changed the bassline after a while...could that be it?

Geo, Hey! Im Scottish and I got the joke. And correct me if Im wrong but Cats American and she didnt! Watch what you say about us brits' sense of humour!! No-no-no... what I meant was MY attempts at humor are sometimes unclear and lacking. (The brit comment was about the spelling of humor/humour). British humor is some of the best out there. You guys gave us Monty Python... what else is there to say?

Speaking of Monty Python, earlier this week I saw Eric Idle on his "Greedy Bastard" tour stop in Toronto. About 60% of what he did was Python, ranging from "nudge nudge know what I mean" to an encore take of Lumberjack song. He claims that he and the remaining Pythons are going to do a Broadway musical version of Holy Grail in 2005 called Sir Spamalot.
