The standard method I employ for conversion to the cult of James is by lending out the best of CD. This is having a surprisingly good rate of conversion, but it got me to thinking what do I do next to bring them further into our little community.
Gold Mother seems to be the ideal solution, Poppy but not too offbeat, so what do you think???
What do you employ as your second wave tactic?

Laid works well. Failing that - take them to a gig with you & tell them the story of every song & what it means to yoou. This will either a) bore them to death or b) utterly convert them. Worked for one of my friends who was one of those 'oh I didn't realise they had done so many songs I would recognise' types & now lists the gig at Brixton a few years ago as one of her favourite gigs ever.

that's been a bit tricky for the last 5 1/2 years Following Tim Booth in Birmingham I bullied about ten people to surrender into coming to the next gig, am still waiting for it! Its really weird seeing posts that I started two/three years ago suddenly resurrected!

It is weird. I just read through this thread & thought 'wow, that's exactly what I'd have written' before realising that it was me, 3 years ago.

I just converted a friend of mine by loaning him One Man Clapping on vinyl. I don't have a record player at the moment and found out he does and likes to listen to vinyl. A few weeks later he said he listened to it and loved it and wanted more. So go figure. I am enjoying all these resurrected threads though.

Some foms of success aren't worth striving for! It is exactly because James aren't as commercially successful as some other bands that they remain as good as they are!
Striving to achieve results in growth - achieving results in decadence!
