They're all TOO damn good and unfortunately it all depends on my mood.
Today has been a 'Whiplash' day and 'play dead' is summing up my mood.
My new favourite James song is 'Falling Down'
They're all fantastic
It's too hard a question!

I agree... they are all too good to choose between. Although saying that I have voted so I have chosen... I voted Stip-Mine. Although its possibly not my favourite overall albumn it's got some cracking songs on which I love like What for, Not there, Medivial etc. But if I couldn't have that I'd choose seven because I love the song "Don't wait that long" Anyways good poll!

Same again all of the albums are great, and all of the albums have great songs. But for me it's Laid, it's sounds excellent whatever my mood.

No One Man Clapping? Not for any indie snob value, but genuinely it's my fave. A great selection of songs, a good sound (their jangling WOMAD period) and an excellent recording (some of which almost sounds like studio, it's so good).
Re-release it. Now.

What about Ultra - B sides or does that not count ? I only say because it arrived for me yesterday, and I am expriencing some great joy in hearing (for me) previously unknown songs. I love Honest Pleasures, I Defeat, Van Gogh's Dog for starters. So this is currently my favourite album

Ultra is an wonderful CD for those who thought we were true James fans because we loved the hits so much. Alphaville fans also clamour for the beloved b-sides which many feel are as good or better than the singles, and James is no different. As a faithful vinyl fan in the 80's, I always sampled the b-sides hoping to hear more tracks I enjoy, often with disappointment. But the James library is massive and incredible, with untold treasures waiting for fans to graduate from Sit Down and Laid. ("I am hoping, it's God I receive, but I am open, to be deceived...LOVE IT!!!)

Anyway, B-Sides is a massive album, a kind of graduation as the other poster said. It shares my fav album choice with Stutter...

Pleased to Meet You - Best album ever!
This album represents a new kind of James. It has more of an electronic vibe (which I love) while still maintaining the integrity of their classic sound.
LOVE IT!

At least you didn't mention M***********. Then you'd have been in bother. PTMY - very underrated album but I'd still have to go with Laid. Every time.

Mac, I've had to replace my copy of Millionaires - scratched to buggery and skipped during songs - should have asked you first if you had any spare copies lying around your house! £7 it set me back in FOPP

well Manchesters is still there in the city centre, and it's trading under the FOPP name... unless someone took them over and kept a few stores open?
