Hi, just got home.
Excellent gig with plenty of technological mishaps (in particular a power failure right at the end of How was it for you?)and perhaps the best version of She's a Star ever (slow, on waltz time).
Also loved Really hard and the version of Gold Mother (it sounded like Can or Neu!, one of these German experimental bands from the 70s)
Lots of songs, including a new one (a happy audience member took away the handwritten lyric sheet for it at the end, hopefully they'll post it on-line, or send it to the band, as Tim had just written it and didn't know it by heartyet).
Much better sound than at Hoxton, you could hear each member of the band clearly.
Hopefully someone will post the setlist
That's it, I'm going to bed....

great set list yet again! no sign of Sit Down.... be interesting if to see if this was the case for Dublin hope so but doubt it! im not anti sit down but would love to see 3000 puzzled faces!! haha Good to see they played Gold Mother .... although she is probably not happy about this now!! maybe the chances of Violent Rain or Honest Joe next week are not out the releams of possibility? Wow, all I can think of saying which is clean. That set list looks like it was something special. Certainly not just a greatest hits list, but a package made for the long time James fans as well. More of that please for the tour....

What a great night - highlight for me was also the different version of She's a Star - but lots of great stuff. It was actually even more intimate than Hoxton - the stage area was much smaller - pub bands play bigger areas at weddings - fantastic. Met with some forumites and some pictures will be posted. Thanks again to dave who got me the ticket. Loved the new song and Chameleon seemed much more polished and I enjoyed a lot more because of that. More tomorrow when I can write better.

Here's the setlist: Seven Play Dead Who Are You Fine Say Something Chain Mail Really Hard She's a Star (acoustic) Riders Upside (new song!) Heavens Chameleon Don't Wait That Long How Was It For You Getting It Away With It (Encore) Gold Mother Tomorrow Sometimes Just got back. Fantastic gig. Started off a bit slowly. Saul did not look at all well for the first few songs but he picked up later on. It only really got going for me with an awesome five minute long Chain Mail. Having heard Really Hard now for the second time live. I fully appreciate how good a song it is. She's A Star was incredible - very delicately put together can't wait to hear it in a proper venue. Riders: yet again Wow! The new song had a great intro to it. Tim claimed to have written the lyrics 15 minute earlier and sung it entirely from paper. I still prefer Chameleon to Who Are You by a long way. Was great to hear Don't Wait That Long again. Last heard it at Brixton 1998 and it still sounds epic. How Was It For You was cut short towards the end by a complete power failure. Finally the encore was perhaps one of the best I've seen. Was never a fan of Gold Mother until tonight. Reminded me oddly of Honest Joe a little bit (in a very very good way). Tomorrow sounds considerably fresher than the versions we got from 99-01. Greater depth to it. Sometimes, well speaks for itself. I'd be happy if this was in the encore every night. Only disappointment (I'd be interested to hear others' views on it) is Say Something. They made it into a bit of a dirge. It sort of plods along now without any conviction or passion that we've seen in the past. Overall, great show - There was a lot of banter coming off the stage from Jim and Saul about the lack of practice. A few photos to follow

Excuse me, did I just see Chain Mail, Don't Wait That Long, and Riders? ? Those are three of my favorite James songs ever! ESPECIALLY Riders! Nice to see Gold Mother in there, too. Awesome. Dave

with less than a week to the tour, I would hope that the set list doesn't change that much now. That's an almost perfect set as far as I am concerned. In the years since 2001, Top of the world has climbed to the top of my james chart, so the above set plus TOTW would be superb next week.

Gold Mother! And Chain Mail! And Riders! And acoustic She's A Star!
Readers, how I wept! But not so much as I will weep if they don't play Gold Mother at Birmingham or Manchester.
