I know the subject of this thread sounds like something from the Offal forum but bear with me!! I had my iPod on shuffle yesterday and when a song came on I thought "oh good, Redneck, I've not heard that for ages". Imagine my surprise when it turned out it was actually REM with a song called 9-9 from their Murmur album (circa 1983). Have a listen to the intro of both songs, they are practically identical! I could only find a live version of 9-9 but if you have the albm dig it out!! REM - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApBnDz5uE_I (and check out Stipes barnet!!) Does Tim have some explaining to do?!

I don't trust anyone that doesn't like R.E.M, so I am sure that Tim does. On the same sort of idea if you listen to The Bluetones 'Slight Return' the ending turns into a slight version of 'Summer Songs' without the high screaming....trust me.

REM's Belong on Out Of Time is very similar to 72 on Hey Ma too. Tim actually appears with Michael Stipe on one of the tracks on the One Giant Leap project, though they were recorded separately.

Michael Stipe and Tim's lyrics have similarities, I always think lyrically, the way the words jump out of you, take "Loosing my religion" and "Out to get you" for example.
