I have just read the usual magnificent review of the Manchester show ( the reviews on here really are top quality writing) and I am trying very hard not to to have a little weep
I left Plymouth at 10.30am and my Sat Nav said I would arrive at 3.15pm.
At 1.30pm I hit traffic on the M5 around junction 6. At 9.30pm, after travelling roughly 12 miles in those 8 hours I took the turning off the northbound M5 and turned around and headed back home.
I had, of course, been looking forward to this gig since the summer when I had purchased my ticket. This would have been my 21st time watching James (plus 1 Tim Booth gig in Bristol!) I pride myself on making the effort to see at least one gig per tour, sometimes 2 or 3. I feel it's my duty to support the band as they give me so much pleasure. Also seeing James makes life a little me bearable and bouys me up.
I usually heed the calls to not make unimportant journeys in bad weather conditions but seeing James is THE most important journey I take each year. Living in Plymouth means that Bristol is usually the closest gig ( 2 hour drive). Note to the band- we have a concert venue that holds 4000 in Plymouth. You played there once in 1998 and the sound was terrible- no wonder you've never come back!
So I have seen at first hand how we as a country cannot cope with snow even when we have plenty of prior knowledge that it's coming. I did get 2 text messages read out on radio 5Live when the Transport Minister was being interviewed!
SO to make me feel better please tell me the gig was filmed for a DVD release!
Also anyone else not make the gig? Can anyone else beat my 8 hours travelling 12 miles? Your sob stories are welcome so I know I'm not alone
