This has probably been discussed in other places but does anyone know why "I Know What I'm Here For" and "Hymn From A Village" were dropped from the DVD release? I know there's no changing things now, but it seems incomplete

'Fraid I don't know the answer, but I'm glad you asked because I've wondered about that as well. I particularly lament the exclusion of "I Know What I'm Here For," as it's one of my all-time favorite James songs.

Always wondered that myself! Im guessing that maybe the band or the company or whoever thought the performances werent good enough! Lots of other stuff that you can hear on th cd were dropped from the dvd aswell and Brian Enos appearance is on neither!

It might have something to do with the video they captured because I think the sound quality on the CD release is fine in both cases. You must be right in assuming they simply weren't satisfied with the performances, otherwise they would be included. "Hymn" is like a cult classic though, and "I Know What I'm Here For" is such an awesome song. I guess we have to disqualify this as a farewell gig, contrary to how it was described in the press. If this were their actual last gig together then all the above mentioned would have to be included, yes? More to come from James

Bit of wishful thinking there?
I think if James were to play their last EVER gig, they would have played a hell of a lot more of their early stuff like What For or even some of the Factory singles!
As a concert I dont think the setlist for gawi live is all that great so fingers crossed a more fitting final farewell is yet to come!

It would have been nice to let the fans make suggestions like they did for B-sides Ultra. When you see the final tally it is of course evident that they didn't release *exactly* what was requested but that too probably would have been wishful thinking. Of course I guess being James they're at liberty to play what they want and still enjoy playing.

I don't think James would have played much Sire / Factory stuff full stop. Apart from Tim and Jim, the rest of the band weren't around for that period and there's very little that has remained from that era. Johnny Yen for sure, Stutter occasionally, the resurrection of Hymn From A Village for the final tour (albeit a safe bet given it's on the Best Of) and a very rare acoustic outing of What For. Even if they were to reform, I wouldn't expect much more to resurface even if Larry was part of the reformation.
As for the exclusions, I suspected it was something to do with fitting everything on one disc, including the promos and the interview. I would have thought with the number of cameras they would have got decent enough footage to put those two on if they chose to.
Eno didn't appear in Manchester, just Wembley btw.

I always thought that "I Know What I'm Here For" and "Hymn From A Village" were dropped from the DVD release so that fans would also buy the cd. I don't think that this would have been the band's position on it, rather the record label likely demanded it.
The in between song stage chatter is editted differently too.

How so? Do you mean edited differently between the DVD and the CD, or between the DVD and another recording? or...?

On the bootleg version, the part where the equipment breaks down, is much more extensive. There's also other remarks and comments on it.

The chatter is editted differently between the GAWIL dvd and cd. The cd is closer to what actually happened. And as Geoff says above, you have to have the bootleg if you want to hear it all.

beside the missing songs on the dvd--clearly the way they cut out a few minuts of the extended 'sound' is the worst part--and without any reason

...yep. The chopping off of "Sound" was uncalled for. The initial scratches of Larry on his "buzz-guitar" always sends a chill down my spine. But alas... it doesn't exist on the DVD.
Question to anyone who was there or has the bootleg: Didn't Tim say something after IKWIHF to the extent of " 'hanging on through late december...' That kind-of sounds like a suicide cry." Or something like that referring to his departure in December. I remember it from the concert but its not on the disc.
Also, anyone catch the change in lyrics for Wembly to "Don't know what I'm here for"? That was interesting....

btw- anyone have the MEN bootleg?
