Born Of Frustration - a friend of mine was DJ in an Indie Club and played the single quite often during that time. These unusual "whoo-whoo's" and the trumpet combined with a cool guitar sound was quite interesting for me. I've heard "Sit Down" before, but thought it's just another of these one-hit-wonder "madchester"-bands (I still don't like the song very much). I bought Seven and loved them ever since - esspecially the Laid period. Unfortunately they hardly ever toured through Germany and only when I saw them finally live in 1999, headlining the small "Haldern Open Air", I was totally overwhelmed by their live qualities. I bought the complete back-catalogue before Seven and all the singles I could get - flew over to the UK for several gigs during their last three UK tours, incl. the last ever (?) show in London. They are still the best live band I have ever seen! "James lasts"!

My mate used to listen to James on his walkman all the time, he had Seven playing one day and I asked to listen. The lyrics that I heard were "Dont need a shrink but an exorcist", at the time I was a fan of the movie The Exorcist.
Work that one out then!

it would have been destiny calling for me. it started in the 1st few weeks of secondry school in year 7, see i used to go in the art rooms for my dinner and there were theses lads from the last year, and they were listening to this strange music, i thought they would think i was cool if i knew who sang this, i asked them who it was and they said it was 'james' im like thats cool im called james aswell. unfortunatley my auntie died in the next few weeks afer that but in her cd collection there was a james cd called 7, but at the time i thought it was 'his' name james seven. so i got friendly with the last year boys got into great music and loved it ever since

A friend of mine playing One Man Clapping when I went round to his house one night. It must haver been around 18 years ago! My memory is playing tricks on me but I recall buying What for on 12" not long after.
I recall the joy of Alton Towers and standing in the rain not knowing if James were going to play! It strikes me that the vast majority of people here are "New" fans from the laid era onwards, and has prompted the question where are all the old school. Appreciated that some of the Alton Towers crowd were the Sit Down Brigade who faded in and out farily quickly, but surely not all. It stuns me that Gold Mother is "An Early album"

Interestingly however, the friend who had ne man clapping got back in touch with me after about 15 years last year, and was shocked that I was such a massive James fan, and still ponits out that it was he who got me into them. He too is a twat.

Me and my mate stole his big sisters copies of Come Home and Sit Down, the rough trade ones. We were about 11 or 12 at the time. Since then I bought every release. Gold Mother to Laid is still my fav period for the band. It just means so much to me, although the reforming has got the fires burning again ;D

I saw a live concert on the BBC. I think in 1990 or 1991 and since that moment I am a fan. Unfortunately I never saw them live. You've got a new chance now! En Oegstgeest is niet zo ver van mijn computer verwijderd

Sit down (Gold Mother version)
It was on a compilation CD in the Netherlands with all kinds of 'new' bands on it like Jesus Jones and de Raggende Manne ;D
I was hooked right away and bought Gold Mother the same week.

Sit Down.
I also remember singing along to I Am The One And Only by Chesney Hawkes, so I guess that makes me a traitor. I think I was 5 years old though, so I hope I can be forgiven.
