Not even close....still a great song! Tim's Glaston version is more beautiful then a sunrise on mount everest...but it's still not the most beautiful song in history. Only my honest opinion of course

When I first heard sometimes I thought it was one of the best songs ever, although it is still brilliant (and always will be) I have since heard better james songs. Do I also get a big booooo now?

The first time I saw it (live from America on top of the pops) I thought it WAS.
First impressions are usually correct.
ps: you're not referring to the Erasure song, i hope!!!!!

Big boooo for Blademan No, I don't mean the erasure song, there's a separate poll coming for that soon ;D I remember that TOTP appearance too, I have it on VHS somewhere! Truly wonderful, with the woman dancing in front of them

There should be a 'yes' 'no' and 'sometimes' column to tick! Sometimes, very often hits my spot. It was great at Hoxton last week, in a joyful, singing along, life doesn't get much better way and I love the gorgeous, haunting, slow version that Tim did at Glastonbury in '04. Its got great lyrics too, I love the images, I read somewhere once that it stands up as proper poetry on its own, and chunks of it are really successful in that way. The 'sometimes when I look deep in your eyes I swear I can see your soul' line is just genius. Lyrics are important to me and this song really clicks with my text instincts. I don't know whether it would be my greatest song in history, but it's got to be a contender.

Good post yeah the 3rd option would have been better, I was busy deciding whether to put Yes and Yes as the options

I'd rank it in the top 200, but the #1 song EVER is, well, subjective

And yes, sometimes does really hit the spot. Defo contender.

I don't like how they do it live- the bassline stomps over what should be layers of guitar in the foreground and makes it more machine-like. The version on Laid they captured the song perfectly- which makes a nice change actually from taking really good live songs and then not doing them right in the studio.

" The TRUTH is harder than the pain inside, ooooohhh oohh oooh"
NO it isn't. You were correct. It isn't even James' best song.
That honour lies with ONE OF THE THREE, I mean SO MANY WAYS, I mean COME HOME, I mean RUNAGROUND, I mean REALLY HARD, I mean TOMORROW, I mean SEVEN, I mean FAIRGROUND, I mean SIT DOWN, I mean JOHNNY YEN, I mean MEDIEVAL,............. I'll stop now.
But SOMETIMES is a cracking song/tune!!!!!!
